Letter from St. John Lutheran Church and School

Letter from St. John Lutheran Church and School
New Orleans, Louisiana

July 25, 2008

Dear Mr. Lebo,

On behalf of St. John Lutheran Church and School we thank you very much for your "May Mission of the Month" donation. We have seen some wonderful changes at our church and school. The school has added 3rd grade for the upcoming 2008-09 school year and we are pleased to see an increase in enrollment this year.

In early May a volunteer group from New York worked in our city, stayed on our campus and helped with some campus projects. Presently we are working on the new floor in the gym and hopefully that will be completed before the end of 2008 so the school can use it during the school year.

Vacation Bible School was re-established this summer. We haven't had a VBS since before the storm. Church members volunteered their time for the program "Power Lab", which was led by Pastor Babin and his wife Priscilla. We had a great time with the twenty to twenty-five children in attendance, walking on water was perhaps my favorite demonstration. The lessons and songs really stuck with us. I believe everyone who participated went home humming the VBS songs. Hopefully the news will spread for next year's Vacation Bible School. Paula Wood's classroom was used for crafts.

Also, during the summer once a month on a Friday night is family movie night, a chance to relax, enjoy a movie, eat hot dogs and popcorn and share fellowship in the gym. Neighbors and guests are welcomed and encouraged.

We are very thankful that God sent Pastor Babin, who has brought energy and freshness to the church and school. We are also very thankful for you for your support of our ministry in New Orleans. We hope to continue to serve God in our community.

Sincerely,
Christi Giardina
