Sermon text: 1 John 3:1–3

Sermon Theme: Saint, What a Privilege

Introduction

Grace, mercy, and peace...

Today we celebrate All Saints Day. On this day we give thanks to God for the church living and departed. We remember those who have finished their course and have rested from their labors.

So from our readings for this morning, I’ll show you some of the privileges and blessings we have from being made saints of God.

We are lost in his love

First we see that we are in a great love relationship with our Father in Heaven, whether we feel it or not, let me tell you that God’s love for us is great. It is a great love because...

  1. It is steadfast
  2. It is sealed
  3. It is sinless
  4. It is eternal

We are called Children of God

1 John 3:1 has to do with a legal transfer of title (a spiritual adoption program), for example, a child who has gone from one foster home to another.

And with this change of title comes new entitlements...

  1. Security
  2. Authority
  3. Intimacy
  4. Assurance.
  5. Inheritance

We are heirs of God—Inheritors of God’s eternal glory.

Today as we celebrate All Saints Day, we think of those who have gone on before us, who have all entered into this blessed inheritance. As we remain, we envision our Father’s love, but most importantly, we envision what awaits us in heaven.
