Sermon text: Matthew 25:31–46

Sermon Theme: Preparing for his coming III(The Day of the Lord)

Introduction

Grace, mercy, and peace...

Today marks the last day in the church calendar year, and the gospel reading for today also speaks of the last day of our earthly journey.

For the past two weeks, we have been treating the subject of the end time; looking at various imageries used by our Lord in parables. Through these two parables, we realized that God has always been in human history.

Like any caring father, God is following us, taking account of activities with the one hope of making our lives better. But at the same time this world and its passions will soon be done away with and God will take us into this new world that he has prepared for those who trust in him.

  • The Day of Gathering
    • The great gathering
    • The great separation
    • The great invitation
  • The Day of Classification
    • The real people
    • The real picture: Jesus is painting a picture using the characteristics of sheep and goats.
  • The Day of Recognition

This recognition is not acts that earn salvation. Rather these are acts flowing from the goodness of God in one’s life, a goodness that flows out of a heart of compassion.

The mission efforts you have blessed, that person that you just sat and listened to, the guy at the traffic light that you gave a dollar to, that person you to gave a warm place to stay—each of those acts was for Jesus.

Conclusion

For the past three messages we have heard on the end time, Jesus ends each of them stressing the reality of two eternally prepared places... heaven and hell...
